2027 Hyundai Kona

2027 Hyundai Kona

Drivers who spend weekdays in 400-series traffic and weekends loading up for a getaway need a crossover that parks easily and still swallows gear. The 2027 Hyundai Kona fits that brief in its class, with a 4,350 mm body on most trims, 723 L of cargo space behind the rear seats and 1,803 L with the seats folded.

Five trims make up the Canadian lineup: Essential, Preferred, Preferred Trend, Luxury and N Line Ultimate. Four of them use a 2.0 L four-cylinder rated at 147 hp, and the N Line Ultimate steps up to a 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 190 hp. All-wheel drive with Active Cornering Control is standard on the top three trims and available on the first two.

A 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity and a deep driver-assistance list round out the picture, and the N Line Ultimate adds navigation and surround-view monitoring. The 2027 Kona is expected to arrive at the dealership soon, and the sections below take each area in turn.

What’s new on the 2027 Hyundai Kona?

2025 Hyundai Kona Exterior

Exterior

The Kona wears a compact crossover shape, and each trim has its own face and finish. LED headlights and taillights are standard throughout. The Luxury and N Line Ultimate step up to full-line LED daytime running lights, with turn signals set inside the headlights and taillights. The N Line Ultimate has its own front bumper fascia and grille, a rear bumper with a diffuser, and N Line emblems on the grille and fender.

Proportions stay tidy for city driving: 1,825 mm wide on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, with a 5.3 m turning radius on the Luxury. The Essential rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels, while the Preferred, Preferred Trend and Luxury use 18-inch wheels. The N Line Ultimate wears 19-inch wheels on P235/45R19 all-season tires and body-coloured cladding, and a two-tone body colour is available on it.

Roof rails and rear privacy glass start at the Preferred. The Preferred Trend and Luxury pair dark grey cladding with chrome window belt moulding. With AWD, the Preferred, Preferred Trend and Luxury are listed at 205 mm of ground clearance and the N Line Ultimate at 210 mm, a useful margin for the snowbelt roads Ontario drivers meet in winter.

2025 Hyundai Kona Interior

Interior

Cabin materials change by trim. The Essential and Preferred have cloth seats, the Preferred Trend and Luxury have leatherette, and the N Line Ultimate has leather and suede seats with red accents and stitching. Metal sport pedals, deluxe door scuff plates and paddle shifters are exclusive to the N Line Ultimate. Steering wheels are urethane-wrapped on the Essential and leather-wrapped and heated from the Preferred onward. Front and rear USB-C outlets and a 12-volt outlet are standard on all five.

The Kona seats five, with 1,378 mm of front hip room and 1,330 mm in the second row. Rear legroom measures 970 mm, and front legroom is 1,059 mm. The rear seats split 60/40 and fold down, and a dual-level cargo floor is standard on every trim. That floor keeps small items below and larger loads above, which suits a Friday-evening cottage run out of Mississauga.

Heated front seats are standard throughout, and the N Line Ultimate is the only trim with ventilated front seats. Dual-zone automatic climate control begins at the Preferred Trend.

Powertrain

Four trims use the 2.0 L four-cylinder, which produces 147 hp and 132 lb-ft of torque and runs on regular unleaded. An Intelligent Variable Transmission handles the gearing. Combined fuel consumption reads 7.5 L/100 km on the front-drive Essential and 7.6 L/100 km on the front-drive Preferred, while AWD versions of those two come in at 8.5 and 8.6 L/100 km.

The Preferred Trend and Luxury, both AWD, are rated at 8.6 L/100 km combined. The 47 L fuel tank suits daily commuting between fill-ups.

The N Line Ultimate uses a 1.6 L turbocharged four-cylinder producing 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, with peak torque available from 1,700 rpm. It pairs with an eight-speed transmission, shift-by-wire and paddle shifters, and sends power to all four wheels. Its fuel economy is 9.9 L/100 km in the city, 8.1 on the highway and 9.1 combined, and its tank holds 50 L. Front-wheel drive is limited to the Essential and Preferred, which list 170 mm of ground clearance.

Technology

Entertainment
A 12.3-inch touchscreen display audio system is standard on the Essential, Preferred, Preferred Trend and Luxury. The N Line Ultimate carries a screen of the same size with on-board navigation. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth hands-free calling and the BlueLink connected vehicle system come on every trim, so a phone can run maps and music without a cable.

Wireless device charging starts at the Preferred Trend. Audio runs through six speakers on the Essential, Preferred and Preferred Trend, and through a Bose premium system with eight speakers on the Luxury and N Line Ultimate. The Luxury and N Line Ultimate also swap the 4.2-inch cluster display for a 12.3-inch full digital instrument cluster. Hyundai Digital Key joins wireless charging on the Preferred Trend, Luxury and N Line Ultimate.

Safety
Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Warning, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Warning, Driver Attention Warning and Rear Occupant Alert are standard on all five trims. The Essential carries Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection. From the Preferred upward, that system adds junction-turning detection, and Adaptive Cruise Control with stop and go capability is also standard, a help in the slow crawl of rush-hour highways.

The N Line Ultimate carries the longest list: Highway Driving Assist, Surround View Monitor, Blind View Monitor, Remote Smart Parking Assist, parking distance warning front, side and reverse, and Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist in reverse. Side air curtains cover front and rear, and stability control and ABS are standard.
